Match Reports - v Hallam Home Date:23.08.11

AFC Emley 2 - 4 Hallam FC. NCEL 1. 23.08.11- By Libby Leech.

Tuesday night football was back at the Welfare Ground as Emley entertained Hallam and couldn't have got off to a better start as within 10 seconds of the kick off they were one up. Scott Holt picked the ball up from 25 yards and on the half volley struck a sweet shot into the top corner.

He nearly scored his second on 9 minutes when a cross from Mark Stuart fell nicely to him, but his shot was pushed over by Hallam keeper Lewis Naylor. On 11 minutes Hallam had a chance, when a through ball from the defence was kicked high towards the Emley goal but keeper Lewis Rhodes headed the ball clear.

On 21 minutes Hallam had a great chance to equalise when a cross from the left was diverted into the path of an onrushing striker by Rhodes but he could only direct his effort onto the angle of crossbar & post.

They did however equalise on 26 minutes when a cross was headed back across goal and Adam Todd was there to knock it into the net.
Within the next two minutes Emley had two great chances to go back in front as first David Heagney and then Antony Leech had shots.

On 33 minutes the ref showed his first yellow card to Hallam captain Chris Dickman for a foul on Heagney and from the resulting free kick Emley went back in front as Holt's free kick was headed in by Heagney. On 42 minutes Hallam's Steve Wankiewicz received a yellow card for handball.

Before the 45 was up both Mark Stuart & Heagney had shots. Emley had one final shot in the 2 minutes of added time as Stuart pulled a save out of Naylor.

Hallam had the first chance of the 2nd half as a cross from Ben Kistell was caught by Rhodes. Emley's first chance came when Heagney put in a cross for Holt but Naylor was equal to it.

8 minutes into the second half and Hallam were level. A cross from the right was straight to Kistell and he made no mistake. 3 minutes later and Josh Ingham picked up Emley's first booking. On 64 minutes Hallam went in front for the first time in the match, a free kick from the left by Kistell went straight in after it was missed by Rhodes. A minute later and Darren Hepworth made his first two substitutes replacing Mark Stuart with Marc Townsend & Curtis Roberts with Matthew Kilner.

Emley's next booking came on 72 minutes after John Cyrus had fouled a Hallam man. On 74 minutes Matt Kilner had a chance to equalise but Naylor saved his effort. From the resulting corner, Emley skipper Judd Colley had an effort cleared off the line, and the same happened on 76 minutes. 3 minutes later Colley found himself in the book for a foul, but the Hallam shot from the free kick went high and wide of Rhodes left hand post. Leech was the next Emley player to find himself in the book for a foul from behind.

A minute later and Hepworth made his final substitutions replacing Josh Ingham with Mick Amos. With 4 minutes left Emley won a free kick after Ben Redfern had fouled Amos and Heagney had a shot to try and find the equaliser. On 89 minutes Hallam made their first change as Leigh Warriner replaced Ben Redfern and within a minute Warriner scored the 4th goal for Hallam. In the last few minutes of added time, Emley had one final attack but Sean Hazelden, making his 500th Non-League appearance headed wide.
